Home improvement woes

I very much want to give our bedroom an overhaul, but I don't want to change the color scheme. You see, contrary to yuppie decorating techniques, I want my furnishings to match my art. The problem lies therein, for the art is primarily teal, which seems to be a color very out of vogue right now. My whole underwater-starry sky theme is what's at risk.

Specifically what I want is a comforter or comforter cover in shades of teal and blue, or teal and forest green, primarily in velvet. I would settle for a satin jacquard at this point. (Plain satin is just asking for patterns of visible puncture marks from kitty claws and teeth.) I don't want an all-over design, just something with ornamentation or borders. I can find exactly what I want in other colors, but I don't want to change the color scheme!

I've looked in every department and home furnishings store I've passed by, in every catalog with home accessories, and on eBay, and I've been looking for at least a month to no avail. eBay may turn out to be my best bet, but that's questionable at best. I may have to resort to sewing my own, but finding fabric long and wide enough to work with will be a challenge, although I'm willing to piece things as much as I need to to get the look I want.

I had no idea this would be so frustrating. Arrrgh.

Have you tried newport-news.com? They had some teal stuff in thier last catalog...

Really? How'd I miss that? ::burrows through catalog stack::

I hope you can find it again.
If I find a link to it on thier website - I will send away.

No luck finding my particular teal that I can tell on the website--some really pretty stuff in silver and gray, though. Hmm.

Hmmm... I think I threw mine away. If I see it again, I will let you know.

Do you want the comforter to be functional (i.e., warm), or mostly decorative? What's your price range?

Depending on the answers to those questions, I would suggest having a look at Kambriel. It's expensive, but her work is outstanding; a coverlet from her would qualify for heirloom status. I bet you could get whatever mix of colors on the patchwork coverlet you wanted, maybe even provide your own fabrics and get a discount.

One of the issues we have is a cat who likes to bite the comforter. We hope he's going to be with use forever, so expensive comforters/coverlets would be a poor choice.

I don't think the prices are too bad--particularly if I could get exactly what I want. Although that does remind me that I'd planned to make a quilt someday--maybe this is the time. Maybe. ;-)

Anna's Linens usually has stuff that contains teal for comforters. Don't know about Seattle, but they have a store in the Tacoma Mall. Also fairly cheap. One can regularly get comforters there for 20.00 - 30.00...Queen size even.

Pardon the interruption :)
Found your post on Cajun's friends list

No problem about the interruption--in fact, thanks! :-)

I may have to send my husband over to Tacoma Mall next time he's down there gaming. I can hear the cell phone conversation now..."it's got sort of a trim on top." "What color?" ...

You're welcome. :)

Altho they have a large selection, what's on sale varies. So it's a timing issue once you find something you like. I did find they have a website though. Might even save you a trip...
