I drop people from my Friends list rarely, and for only a few reasons: One is people who are ostensibly part of my regular social circle, but whom I have little or no personal contact with. I tend to be very patient waiting for people to add me back, but people in that category who don't add me back after some time tend to get snipped (particularly if they post infrequently).
I like to keep my out-of-town people, or those who are local but whom I don't know in IRL, because I very much appreciate their points of view. I love my circle, but don't want to lose sight of the rest of the world.
Entries that cause me regular angst are another reason I drop people. Surprisingly, I have yet to drop anyone for political entries. *wink*

Date: 2004-03-10 12:42 pm (UTC)I've recently had a problem with un-adding people, and they get very, very hurt. I find it an interesting thing, especially since the person I un-friended didn't post very often/never commented on my journal and has never met me in person and has very little in common with me.
Anyhow, glad to see I made the cut!

Date: 2004-03-10 05:09 pm (UTC)Sometime after you pass 100 friends it starts to get a little overwhelming when they post a lot of stuff you never read.

Date: 2004-05-17 08:12 am (UTC)Right. What I meant to say is, I've seen your comments here & there with friends we have in common...enough so that it's caught my eye more the once...the last being w/
Would you mind if I 'friended' you? (I feel a little creepy doing it w/o asking) We might not have loads in common right off the bat, but you just seem fun & I love your avatar photos--what first caught my attention... (Yep--crawled around a bit, but as it's in the public, "take a look @ who I am" area, figured you probably wouldn't mind). ...and your 'favours o' the moon'...beautiful. ...for whatever that's worth.

Date: 2004-05-17 07:47 pm (UTC)My original goal on making posts Friends Only was to keep one particular person from knowing my whereabouts. I'm probably being overprotective of myself, but he's unpredictable and I don't want to leave myself open for unpleasantness if I can avoid it.
I wondered if I was cutting myself out of getting to know other people by doing that, but it seems they often find me anyway. And I'd rather someone find me through shared friends or interests anyway. We certainly seem to share a lot of friends, fwiw!
