actually, this makes a LOT of sense to me. Among other things, the queen was mother to all of england and all of the territories too, and her relationship with her own blood family strikes me as very similar to yours with your own mom (lots of more focused on optics than the health/well-being of children). I think watching the funeral is a really good plan. Ritual is valuable, even if closure is not.
