Breakthrough
Sep. 29th, 2002 09:06 pmYesterday something happened that seemed nothing short of miraculous to me. After around 5 years of writer's block, I've been making myself write again. LJ and formal poetry mostly, and it's been slowly becoming easier and more fun. But what I missed so much was the feeling of a poem flowing into and through me--all complete and all at once. I didn't know if that would ever happen for me again, and I was trying to resign myself to that possibility.
But yesterday I lay down to take a nap. And suddenly images started coming to me, and then words, and then entire lines were falling into place--one click after the other. I bounded up, grabbed one of my new blank books, and started scribbling. And what came out was a poem. About not being able to write poetry. Heh.
I feel so lucky. Sean said I was glowing. It blew my nap all to hell ;-) and that's just fine. I don't know what unblocked me, what combination of factors, but I'm grateful no matter what.
