Torrefazione was bought by SBC many years ago. I hadn't specifically known that SBC was owned by a bigger conglomerate, but that's not surprising to me at all.
I'm mostly just worried that Starbucks will now kill off the "competing" brands, or else slowly change them to be more and more like Starbucks. The main reason I don't buy Starbucks isn't their questionable politics (though that does bother me), it's because their coffee tastes like crap. Now they're likely to reduce the biggest good brand of coffee (Torre, that is, SBC also tastes pretty bad) to the same crappy level. It also makes it trickier supporting independent coffee shops, because so many of those get their beans from (what will now all be) Starbucks.
