The Cavalier (primary car) seems to have picked up a cricket. Chirp-chirp-chirp-chirp-chirpchirpchirpchirp. The chirping stops when I brake but is consistent upon acceleration.
We really need more cash for car maintenance these days.

We took the secondary car in for a $150 repair today. Hubby called to let me know that they also found out why the spark plug wires keep melting. $589 later... we got the car back.
That might mean that your brake pads are wearing out. I remember seeing an ad years ago that said that was a safety feature that had been designed into GM cars to tell you when to replace them.
Neither one of these is going to get fixed before the next payday, at least, unfortunately. A brake job is doable, and probably warranted anyway. I did some research on the Car Talk website about the Chevette noises, and it seems like it may be a vacuum problem. That's manageable, as it would probably be a hose. But if darkmane is right and it's the head, we're toast. Off to the junkyard then, I suppose, but we won't even be able to do that for a while. ::sigh::
I feel your pain...
Ouch.
