Two unrelated books I'm concurrently reading ("The Magician's Assistant" by Ann Patchett and "To Visit the Queen" by Diane Duane") both refer to a historical figure I'd never heard of before yesterday--a magician named Maskelyne who performed in England in the 1860s.
