I work in a strange place
Sep. 26th, 2002 10:33 am(It's Edmonds Unitarian Church, btw. I didn't realize quite how strange it was till this morning--!)
I got caught in a traffic jam last night on the way home from coffee (and the wreck looked like a fender-bender, although I could be mistaken), I didn't get to sleep till around 3 a.m., and naturally I overslept by almost an hour. So I drag into work tired and hormonal, and am greeted by an envelope taped to my monitor labeled "You're [sic] Flies, 166 count." With apprehension I opened the envelope, and found--flies. (Winged ants, actually, I'm told.) I think my shriek was pretty loud, not to mention my laughter.
The envelope on my boss's monitor was labeled "Barbara's Flies, count 203 1/2."
There's been a little ant problem, apparently, and the custodial guy was having fun. I had no idea Roger's sense of humor was that warped. But it's certainly put me into a new frame of mind, and I imagine I can expect just about anything from today!
P.S. For the sake of clarity--the flies/ants are quite dead, and no, I didn't count them myself to see if Roger was accurate. ;-)

Date: 2002-09-26 10:47 am (UTC)Actually, I wonder how accurate the counts are in general. Did the custodian actually count out how many flies he was putting in each of these envelopes? That seems like a pretty significant investment of time.... perhaps he was approximating by weight. >shrug<
Well, I'm sure that's an interesting way to start your day. Gets the blood and the adrenaline pumping, and all that. ;)

If Ed the minister changes one more thing on the order of service, he's getting an envelope of flies. And he's getting the half.
