do you by chance know what was transpiring with the moon last night? the stars seemed much clearer and the moon much larger and orange in color. it was amazing.

Wow, I missed that. :-( I don't know if that's related to the time of year or not. Maybe the unusual clear weather? Somebody scientific help me out here! ;-)

A colored moon is the result of stuff in the air -- pollution, generally. (Sometimes dust, smoke, or ash, but usually just air pollution) It's the same thing that produces really bright sunsets, too.

As far as it seeming larger... it does normally seem larger when near the horizon, where there's something nearby for contrast. It may also just be that last night was particularly clear and haze-less.
