Friendly telemarketer season

The phone rings. I answer it in the usual fashion: "Edmonds Unitarian Church." The nice *coff* gentleman on the other end says, "You're a church? You're going to hang up on me, you ignorant bastard."

Curious, I pause for a moment, then say, "No, I'm going to wait and hear what you have to say." Then he hangs up on me.

Boss Barbara says these are getting common around here. Unfortunately, you can't *69 them because the numbers are blocked. Ah well.

It wasn't as good as the obscene phone call I got at work once many years ago, but close.

Sounds like a telemarketer call to me-most of them are run on T1 lines so no number shows up. Huh. I'd think Churches would be prime targets for telemarketers.

I guess this guy figures everyone hates him anyway, why bother being polite? And he has a point. I do wonder how long he'll keep his job.

I have a relative who works for the federal govt. It's a federal offense to solicit any of the agencies, so as soon as she answers the phone, the person on the other end nearly soils themself trying to get off the line. Had a friend who used to answer the phone as the FBI. Saved him a lot of hassle, too.

I can't imagine what he thinks he can accomplish be being defeatist *and* offensive. Makes me really wonder what he was peddling, that he's so sure that a church will hang up on him...

somehow it's ironic that someone thinks a church will hang up on him.
there is a national Do Not Call list, I think it's new, may as well get on it.
